When Ab started second grade we let her pick an instrument to learn to play. All of her little friends were playing piano so she joined in. Thankfully, we had just received a piano from Mike's dad. The very same one Mike and his siblings learned to play on when they were children. She had her first recital in May 2010.
One of her girlfriends has the same teacher. This recital consisted of all the students who take lessons from this particualar teacher.
This is her teacher helping her set up. Ab is beginning to be brave. She had lots of practise this year performing in front of large groups.( In 2nd grade she had to research and present her first report. She chose the Triceratops. I went to school and watched, I just had to. I also cried)
Here is her teacher Mrs. B. The best part to me was what Ab played. I was not told each student could pick 2 pieces to perform. We sat through all of these wonderfully played songs, full of passion, enthusiasm and bodies moving along with hands to the keys. Then my little Abbey gets up, sits down, and plays 7 notes (a slight exaggeration) then stops. I looked confused at Mike. Ab swiftly moves to bow, "Was that a bow"? She rushed to sit beside me in the pew again. She says to me, "I am so glad that's over". I say to her, "I am just glad you did it". I turn to Mike and say, "What just happened"?
LOVE HER!! and her willingness to try new things, even if she feels completely tortured:)
